This set of reviews has been a long time coming...I'm hoping that I'll be able to publish my reviews in a more timely fashion in the future, but for now let's focus on these 5 games.
First up is Gamevil's Vanquish. If you're a fan of RPGs, I'm sure you know that Gamevil also makes Hybrid, Hybrid 2, Zenonia and Zenonia 2...they also make a few baseball titles. In any case, this game is a bit different for Zenonia because there are less RPG elements to it and more button mashing elements to it (at least for me...)
The next game I reviewed is an unusual "Hammer Throw" like game called CataGugl
, where you swing the Gugl around in circles and try to toss him as far as you can. Its a really, really simple game in concept, but is stress-relieving and addicting at the same time.
All you have to do is use your index finger to spin Gugl as fast as you can go and on the count of three let him go and see how far you can throw him...I know it doesn't sound like much, but believe me, if you're looking for brainless stress relief, the answer is CataGugl. Watch and enjoy my vid review
My next review is for all of you Farmville players...AstroRanch
takes farming to the next level, well, the 3D level to be exact. Before I go on with the Farmville comparisons, I want to state up front that this game is only like farmville in the "farming" aspect of this game, there is no social interaction with other Astro Ranch players and in that sense, this game is more like an RPG where you complete tasks and other missions.
The only gripe I had with this game was that it was a little slow to move around and actually get things done (planting, sowing, etc.) in the 3D environments...This may be a problem on my part, but the interface just feels clunky and could perhaps be more efficient? Not sure, but if the developers can retain the same look and feel of the game but make it more fluid, I'm sure the playability of this game would increase A LOT. In any case, don't take my word for it, let me show you the game in action, watch my YouTube review
to see how it actually plays.
The next app I reviewed is not quite a game, nor is it a utility or business application. I'll classify it as "Entertainment" or "Other." Basically it is an application that showcases Alternate Reality or AR technology. The app is called ARGirl
. The premise is quite simple, you point your iphone's camera at a "marker" and a virtual dancing girl will appear....Not only that, she will dance to the music on your iphone.
If you take a look at the screenshot to the right of this story, you'll notice that on the person's hand is a triangle, this is the marker that "tells" the application where to project the image of the dancing girl. To the maker's credit, there is also a marker-less mode where the dancer dances in mid-air, but I think the mark allows the image to scale better to the environment around the image. In any case, this is a fun app, but I don't see much use for it other than showing off to your friends..even then, it only lasts a few minutes...Well, if this is your thing, then this app will appeal to you..Watch my video
to get a better idea of how it works. Enjoy!
The last application I'm reviewing today is Above and Below
...This game is basically a "shooter" type game where you see your plane from the top down and the objective is to shoot the enemies out of the sky while avoiding their gunfire. If you're ever played the old-school game 1942, then you know what I'm talking about...this game is almost exactly like that but with tilt controls.
As a kid, I was never any good at these "shooter" type games, I would always get distracted by the pretty explosions and the other enemies...but the funny thing now, is an adult, I THINK I'm able to tune those other distractions out and focus on avoiding the bullet hell that is flying toward me and just hope that I'm destroying the enemy. I think if you take the path of survival and not destruction, you'll do fine in these types of games...If you have another strategy for me, please let me know...In any case, I don't think this type of game appeals to many people, but with my new found strategy, I, for one am appreciating them more and more...I am currently enjoying the demo version of Dodonpachi and Galuda...I'm just a nudge from buying them, so maybe in the future, I'll feature those two games here also. If you're interested, watch my video review of Above and Below
, hope you enjoy.
I really hope you enjoyed my reviews and again, I'll try to publish these in a more timely fashion in the future, no promises, but I sure will try...hope you've enjoyed my reviews as much as I've enjoyed playing these games...till next time, ciao.
