If you've got an iPhone 3G and have been trying to update it to iOS 4, you've probably been wondering whats taking it so long. Various websites have reported the process taking up to 2.5 hours to get through. It took my iPhone 3G almost 4 hours and even at that length, my music wasn't transferred back because of a restore error. Other than that, everything seems to work.
Others haven't been so lucky though.
If you are concerned that things are just not moving fast enough for you, do yourself a favor and just let your phone update for 2 hours or so and be patient. If you MUST see what kind of progress your update is making, have a look at this:
Go to your home folder > Library > Application Support > MobileSync > Backup
Be sure to turn on show all sizes for that folder in the Finder by going to View > Show View Options - then check off "Size" and "Calculate all sizes".
Once you've done that, start your sync/upgrade and you'll see a new backup being created. You'll notice that the size will slowly creep upwards. When it matches or exceeds one of your previous backup sizes, the update will probably get faster since it's done backing things up. Why it takes so long to backup, is beyond me though.
