AT&T Doubling 3G Download Speeds in Anticipation of Next iPhone

When the iPhone was originally introduced (both EDGE & 3G versions), AT&T had to work furiously to upgrade their network infrastructure to accommodate the upcoming iPhone. Now, reports are coming in much the same as before, this time stating that AT&T is trying to double their existing capacity so that the peak download speed is 7.2 Mbps instead of the current 3.6 Mbps.

In addition to doubling 3G speeds, AT&T is also looking into the looming 4G with HSPA_ that would allow speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps...There are rumors that AT&T may opt to forego the 14.4 Mbps speeds and go directly to speeds of 21 Mbps. However, competitors such as Verizon and Sprint are rapidly ramping up their 4G networks...

Exciting news for us, the customers in any case...
