When the iPhone was originally introduced (both EDGE & 3G versions), AT&T had to work furiously to upgrade their network infrastructure to accommodate the upcoming iPhone. Now, reports are coming in much the same as before, this time stating that AT&T is trying to double their existing capacity so that the peak download speed is 7.2 Mbps instead of the current 3.6 Mbps.
In addition to doubling 3G speeds, AT&T is also looking into the looming 4G with HSPA_ that would allow speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps...There are rumors that AT&T may opt to forego the 14.4 Mbps speeds and go directly to speeds of 21 Mbps. However, competitors such as Verizon and Sprint are rapidly ramping up their 4G networks...
