While the Apple iPhone doesn't have the worlds best camera, it takes decent photos and I do use it quite often. It's also very frustrating as there are absolutely no controls for the camera except orientation and the ability to snap the photo. What is especially frustrating is that it's sometimes impossible to hold the camera steady and press the shutter button to take a photo in bad lighting conditions. Pressing the shutter button causes the camera to shake, and I end up having to retake the photo over and over again.
Well there's an iPhone app out called
FotoTimer that can help solve that problem for you!
FotoTimer is a replacement for Apple's built in camera that allows you to have a timer that automatically activates the shutter.
FotoTimer allows you to choose the duration of time before it releases the shutter, and this allows you to hold the camera steady for a perfect shot!
FotoTimer allows intervals of 2, 5, 10 and 20 second increments before it releases the shutter. That means you could actually do a group photo with your friends and get in the picture as well, as long as the camera is situated in a position where it can free stand on it's own. The addition of a count down beep gives you an audible signal of when the iPhone's camera will take the picture. This can be turned on and off as needed. There is also a function to auto save the photo or to retake the photo which is a nice touch. This function can also be turned on or off as needed.
During the review of FotoTimer, I found it quite handy, especially when taking photos with only one hand free. It allowed me to position the iPhone to compose the photo I was taking then snap the photo without any camera shake. Very cool!
There's just one thing I wish
FotoTimer did that it doesn't do currently; allow me to go directly to my Photo Gallery from FotoTimer. Switching applications is okay but it just takes longer than if there were a dedicated way to get to the Gallery from the application.
A very simple app that I'm surprised Apple didn't just include in it's iPhone 2.0 software.
FotoTimer
[Link goes to iTunes] is my default iPhone camera app now, and for $1.99 it's something you might look into if you're a one handed or shakey hand photographer like me.

Just use the right camera app for that - Night Camera!
It uses the accelerometer to know when to release the shooter... pretty basic and smart!
