In a relatively recent move, it seems that Apple is now allowing iPhone developers to offer free promotional copies of their applications. In a nutshell, Apple allows the developer to issue up to 50 promotional codes which allow users to download the app for free. At the moment, these codes can only be used in the iTunes store with "Redeem" link. We haven't been able to test this out yet, however as soon as we do, I'll try to do a more detailed write up about the process...
In any case, this bodes well for budding iPhone developer and users who may want to try an application before buying.
