When all iPhones look pretty much alike on the outside, one does what they can to customize theirs to their liking. (Or at least I do.) With a huge variety of styles and types to choose from, I found my preferences ran towards the cases that felt that they either protect my phone from potential drops or easy to attach and are seamless.

While the plastic case I had been using on my iPhone over the past year felt secure, it felt bulky and made my phone feel even heavier. My husband, who has the same case as I, was in the habit of even removing his regularly - opting for the more naturally sleek feel of the naked iPhone. Well, it that doesn't say we need to look for something new, I'm not sure what does.

Lo- and behold, in the mail arrives three new Bottom Cover style cases from JAVOedge.

These light-weight covers quickly snap onto the iPhone bottom, effectively protecting the back from any scratches or scrapes. They are all made of polycarbonate plastic, despite the leather claims. However, they have a feel that is somewhat similar to leather due to texture and stitched detailing. The fit is snug and they won't slip or pop off. Ports and plugs are all accessible.

Let me be clear - these cases are made specifically for the 1st generation iPhone and will not fit the new iPhone 3G.

I took the Leather Wrapped Bottom Cover - as style is important as function for me - and my husband took the Rubberized Bottom Cover

Of the three, the Rubberized Bottom Cover felt the most comfortable. The surface is smooth and almost silky to the touch and wraps almost seamlessly around the edges of the iPhone. After a week's worth of handling, the rubberized surface remains clean, non-sticky, and smooth. The only concern raised over constant usage was the slightly sharpened edge where the iPhone charger/connector cable is inserted. As my husband uses his pinky to help hold up his iPhone there, he found it occasionally uncomfortable.

The Leather Wrapped Bottom Cover is much more "substantial" in feel. There is a thickness around the edges where it snaps onto the iPhone and by virtue, adds some girth. The leather detailing has a natural look and feel and the stitches around the edges give it a much more classy air. Although the edges are not flush, the corners are somewhat rounded.

The Embossed Leather Bottom Cover was the least natural looking and feeling of the three, the plastic feels quite stiff making it somewhat difficult to remove the cover when snapped on. The construction of the case is very similar to the Leather Wrapped Bottom Cover, but upon closer inspection, the edges are not as nicely rounded/finished. The design itself is embossed and appeared spray-painted with green paint to showcase the texture. This was obviously my least favorite of the three.

So of the three, I would recommend the Rubberized Bottom Cover. The case just feels nice and fits practically seamlessly - similar to holding the iPhone without a case. For my husband, going from no case to this case - it's a nice improvement.

I recommend with reservations the Leather Wrapped Bottom Cover. It feels leather-like and holds in place nicely, but the added girth is noticeable in feel and weight. Overall, if you're looking for something that has that general look and feel of leather with ding-protection, this might be a good match for you. After all, it is my new iphone case until I get my iPhone 3G!
